Internal communications
Staff need to understand how a strategy or decision affects their work and where to raise questions. SCA prepares internal communications for organisational decisions, giving managers the information they need to explain what is changing.
Staff and managers need different information
An initial discussion establishes what has been decided, which staff are affected and what managers will need to do. The client supplies the decision record, organisational context, timing and advice from the people responsible for employment or operational matters.
The communications plan distinguishes an announcement from consultation on a proposal. Where formal employee consultation is required, the relevant human resources and legal advisers establish those requirements.
Deliverables and review
An assignment can include a staff communication plan, executive message, manager brief, questions and answers, and arrangements for collecting and responding to staff questions. Material should make clear which matters managers can answer and which need referral.
SCA scopes and quotes the work before it starts, including the audiences, documents, approvals, timing and responsibilities for responding to questions. Internal communications forms part of media and internal communications.
